Abstract. The analysis of recent studies and publications shows a marked increase in overweight and obesity among schoolchildren and students, which threatens the spread of concomitant severe diseases and the subsequent disability of younger patients. In such conditions, the problem of thorough and comprehensive study for this phenomenon among students and the definition of effective ways and means of combating it is relevant. Obesity is a chronic disease spread around the world and threatens the public's global health. The phenomenon of obesity drawn attention of the scientific community, organizations and governments around the world, because it negatively affects people's lives.

The obtained research results are a convincing precondition for the determination of the correlation between the body mass index and the individual indices of the body’s functional systems, which, in our opinion, will enable to improve the physical development of students and optimize the factors affecting this process.

Keywords: obesity, Body mass index, unhealthy foods, overweight, students, аnthropometric indices.
