Sugar substitutes and their effects on the human body

Abstract. Sugar substitutes are sweet-taste chemicals from a group of carbohydrates that do not participate in or are converted into biochemical transformation into glucose, but much slower. At present, the use of sugar substitutes in Ukraine is more than 78 kg per capita per year and increases every year. The main part of these substitutes are dangerous to human health intensive synthetic sweeteners. Despite the high-energy value and economic efficiency of sugar substitutes, there is a huge disadvantage they have a negative impact on human health. For people who want to lose weight, replacing sugar with similar products, sweeteners can have a reverse effect as they cause hunger and, as a result, lead to weight gain. In order to reduce the risk of adverse effects, it is necessary to analyze the effects of sugar substitutes on the human body. The study of the sugar substitutes effect on the human body, investigation of the positive and negative effects of their actions determine the relevance of the work.

The information that the use of sugar substitutes causes serious side effects and even causes the oncological diseases will remain an urgent topic for discussion. However, in order to resolve the situation, the World Health Organization established safe limits for the daily consumption of sugar substitutes by the adults to eliminate the lowest risk.
